Annaleise Carr - NON FICTION

Over eight months of planning, hundreds of hours of hard physical training, amassing a team of dedicated crew mates, approaching sponsors and collecting donations--and, finally, swimming for twenty-seven hours across the cold, rough waters of Lake Ontario. Why would a fourteen-year-old girl take on such a challenge? For Annaleise Carr, the motivation did not come from a desire for glory. Her ultimate goal was to raise money for her new friends at Camp Trillium, a charity that provides a camping experience for kids with cancer. What kept her going through the cold water, the exhaustion and the terrifying night swim was the thought of those kids and their families that she was helping. In August 2012, she became the youngest person to cross Lake Ontario. Readers will meet an extraordinary fourteen-year-old girl in this book. As she tells her story, it becomes clear how idealism and an intense desire to help others can lead a young teen to almost unimaginable achievements.

My rating for Annaleise Carr is 10/10. I really liked the way the book described how Annaleise felt during her long swim across lake Ontario. I enjoyed reading about what she thought about during her long swim- Eric Thomas, her little ''movies'', and what the kids with cancer had to go through-, and all the preparation the family had to do in the past year for the swim to happen. The way Deborah Ellis wrote the book made me fell as if I was Annaleise, swimming for Camp Trillium. I think that camp Trillium is a good place for kids with cancer, because in the book it said that it distracted them from their pain and sadness. I'd describe Annaleise Carr as brave, determined, kind, and courageous because she pushed and pushed herself to swim all throughout the night even when she was scared, or when her legs were aching with pain. I also found it amazing when the book said that a rainbow appeared in the sky near the end of the book, signifying hope, and that the rest of the swim would be fine.

I rate this book a 10 out of 10 because it was really inspiring how a 14 year old swam across lake Ontario. She came up with the idea of doing it when her swim group went to a camp called "Camp Trillium" where disabled kids and their families live and get surgery. She met this one family that she bonded with and that really inspired her. She wanted to volunteer at the camp but she was too young so she came up with the idea of swimming across lake Ontario. The book really describes how hard it must have been for her, . In the end she raised 90 thousand dollars for "Camp Trillium." Her coach would put food in a lacrosse net to feed her and if she held on to the net she would be disqualified and she didn't sleep for 27 hours.

  3. Raphaelle5A. I give this book 10 out of 10 because it was an amazing adventure. This book was really cool . What I really love about Annaleise's kind personality and how she was inspired do to swim across lake Ontario when she visited camp Trillium. She wanted to help at camp Trillium but she could not until she was 18 years old. When she finished her long swim she helped many kids with cancer and raised a lot of money.

I give this book 8/10 It was a very good book. I thought it was very cool that a 15 year old girl swam across lake ontario. I thought it was crazy that she was only supposed to swim 50 some km but she got thrown so off course she swam 70 km. I liked that they talked about her during the swim. She also got to meet Stephen Harper for her swim. Also she raised 90.000
dollars for camp trillium a camp that helps kids with cancer, which is awesome.

I give this book 9/10 because I thought it was quite interesting that it took 50 years to beat the record and that it was a 12 year old!!!!!! I thought that it was scary that there were were blood sucking sea lamprey in the water. I would be X-tremly scared if I knew that . I also thought it was amazing that she raised a total of $90,000 for kids with cancer!!!!

Annaleise Carr was a great book so I give it a 9/10. I thought that Annaleise was courageous and kind because nobody had swam across Lake Ontario at the age of 14 before but she did it anyways and that she did it to raise money for Camp Trillium. I found the fact that she raised 90,000 dollars for camp Trillium when her goal was 30,000 dollars was amazing. Annaleise Carr is for anybody who wants an inspirational story.
